Eduardo Mahn - Germany

DDS, DMD

Objective

The objective of the course is to give an update to the participants about composite techniques in the posterior as well as in the anterior area. The course will give practical and scientific information about classical former techniques compare to the latest developments in composite science. It will describe step by step an improved  layering technique with its advantages and disadvantages. Posible modifications, typical mistakes and their correction, tips and tricks will be presented.

Course Outlines

A lecture of around 1 hour 30 minutes will present the topic, clinical cases, problems associated with the materials, limitations of the techniques and the possible modern solutions will be given. After the break, a hands-on course about posterior restorations will be done. After the lunch another 1 hour 30 minutes lecture will be given, covering all the aspects related to an anterior composite restoration. After the break, a Class IV composite restoration will be done by the participants in an highly esthetic model giving a really patients-like experience. At the end, an unemotional, down to earth analysis will confront the direct with the indirect technique.

The course will discuss:
  1. Composites vs Amalgam
  2. Preparation rules for composites
  3. Adhesion principles, materials and techniques
  4. Basic concepts for aesthetic restorations (opacity, translucency, opalescence, texture, surface roughness, contours, aesthetic parameters, light reflection, etc)
  5. Layering technique
  6. Composite systems
  7. Polishing systems, techniques and polishing steps
Morning session: Posterior restorations
