Surgical crown lengthening procedures are performed to provide retention form, create ferrule and adjust gingival levels. Preserving the biologic width is the most important issue in this procedure. Maintaining the post surgical gingival levels may only be possible by detailed planning and strict compliance with the biological width of the tissue.

introduction
Crown lengthening procedure is one the most common procedures performed in pre-prosthetic periodontal therapy or correcting the delayed passive eruption. In both cases the procedure is highly predictable if certain basic guidelines are followed. Biologic width is among these guidelines but is not enough solely to guarantee success. In this course indications of crown lengthening procedures will be discussed on clinical basis, and treatment options will be detailed. Methods to achieve shorter healing periods, post surgical considerations with special focus on complications are among the topics to be discussed during the course.
